Goede recensies en mooie publicaties voor Nationaal Holocaust Namenmonument
Afgelopen september is het Nationaal Holocaust Namenmonument officieel onthuld in Amsterdam. Sinds de onthulling hebben duizenden bezoekers het labyrint met meer dan 102.000 unieke bakstenen ter herinnering aan de Nederlandse slachtoffers van de Holocaust bezichtigd. Het monument – naar ontwerp van Studio Libeskind – is ook in (inter)nationale media niet onopgemerkt gebleven. Hierbij een selectie van deze mooie recensies en publicaties.

Architectuurcriticus Kirsten Hannema is positief over het herdenkingsmonument: “‘Indrukwekkend’ is het eerste woord dat opkomt bij het betreden van het Holocaust Namenmonument, dat aan Amsterdamse Weesperstraat is verrezen, op de plek van de voormalige Joodse buurt. ”
NRC Handelsblad – 19 september 2021
Recensent Bernard Hulsman was in eerste instantie kritisch, maar stelde zijn mening bij: “Alle eerdere twijfels bleken ongegrond.” Hij gaf zelfs een 5-sterrenrecensie: “Samen met architectenbureau Rijnboutt, die de landschappelijke inbedding van het monument en de tuinarchitectuur voor hun rekening namen, heeft Libeskind een wonder verricht.”
Wallpaper* – 19 september 2021
Het krachtige ontwerp wordt door Ellie Stathaki van internationaal magazine Wallpaper* geroemd: “Daniel Libeskind and Studio Libeskind have just unveiled the National Holocaust Memorial of Names in Amsterdam, a powerful design shaped by reflective volumes and dramatic geometries.”

Hoofdredacteur Paula Pintos brengt het landschapsontwerp voor het voetlicht op internationaal platform ArchDaily. We waren hiervoor verantwoordelijk, inclusief de afwatering, de keuze voor de beplanting en de aansluiting op de openbare ruimte.

STIRworld – 30 september 2021
Editor Jincy Iype van het Indiase architectuur-, design- en kunstmagazine STIRworld schrijft: “Studio Libeskind with local studio Rijnboutt have created a dynamic labyrinth of passages defined by angular steel entities that crown brick walls inscribed with the names of 1,02,000 Dutch Jews, Sinti and Roma victims of the Holocaust, for the National Holocaust Memorial of Names in Amsterdam.”

Dezeen kreeg de primeur van de indrukwekkende video van Stijn Poelstra, waarin je als kijker wordt rondgeleid door het monument.
Blauwe Kamer – 29 oktober 2021
Ook hoofdredacteur Mark Hendriks nam de indrukwekkende video van Stijn Poelstra op in de Blauwe Kamer ezine en noemt het een ‘labyrint om nooit te vergeten’.
Baumeister – 12 november 2021
Het Duitse architectuurmagazine Baumeister roemt het feit dat de slachtsoffers individueel bij naam worden genoemd: “Het Holocaust Namenmonument haalt de slachtoffers uit de anonimiteit.”
Archello – 17 november 2021
Architectuurplatform Archello heeft het Nationaal Holocaust Namenmonument opgenomen in hun projectportfolio en een artikel hieraan gewijd: “Located in Amsterdam’s Jewish Quarter and close to important Jewish cultural buildings including the Portuguese Synagogue and the Jewish Historical Museum, the design was realized in collaboration with local architects Rijnboutt who as executive architect fulfilled the role of coordinating this project.”

Domus – 19 november 2021
Volgens auteur Chiara Testoni van het Italiaanse designmagazine Domus is herdenking belangrijk voor vertrouwen in de toekomst: “A cathartic journey through brick walls and reflective surfaces restores identity to the victims of the Holocaust and identifies memory as the only way to look to the future with confidence.”
